Winter Weight Loss Tips
Beat the Winter Weight Gain with these Winter Weight Loss Tips
We’re all prone to a bit of extra winter padding as life slows down with the cold weather and we tend to move our activities inside, spending more time on the couch. Cold weather becomes an excuse for our slothfulness, yet we fool ourselves into believing we need more energy to keep warm in spite of reduced activity levels. The average person gains 1 to 2 pounds during winter trying to mask it with loose fitting comfy winter clothes. It’s not all doom and gloom though as we show you how to stay trim with these winter weight loss tips.
Tip 1: Fill up with salad. Depending on the type of salad you eat and the energy content of the dressing you use, you can reduce your calorie intake by up to 18% by eating a large salad prior to your main meal. This is achieved by stretching and distending your stomach giving feelings of fullness which in turn makes you less likely to eat large quantities high calorie winter comfort food. If sourcing salad greens during winter is difficult, other low calorie vegetables such as zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage will work too! Also try substituting mashed potato for mashed cauliflower with a dash of pepper and parmesan cheese for taste. This will reduce calories and starch.
Tip 2: Enjoy a trim hot chocolate. The benefits of a hot chocolate made with trim milk are two fold. The milk is good and you’ll deal with your craving for sweet things. University of Tennessee researchers established that calcium in milk aids the break down of fat in fat cells. Additionally, the presence of minerals such as phosphorus and magnesium in milk augment the effect of calcium in fat breakdown, while the milk protein maintains muscle mass during fat loss. Note: Try to find a low calorie hot chocolate powder and ensure you use trim milk.
